How do I know if my child is ready for your program?
When parents hear that our class includes things like teen pregnancy prevention, dealing with peer pressure, etc. they think, My child isn’t ready for all that! The truth of the matter is that preteens are the perfect age to start learning about what they may face in the teen years. All of our curriculum is very age-appropriate. Our goal is to help students get clear on their values and goals for themselves, as well as start thinking about how they will handle peer pressure before they need to. Having a plan for how they will handle tough situations, and knowing they can talk to you about it, will help prepare them for the teen years. See Marlene’s blog for more information on this. Is My Daughter Really Ready for This? Am I?
What if I’m not ready for all this?!
As parents it can be really tough to recognize that our kids are growing up and will become teeenagers. We know that they will always be our babies. However, ignoring the changes that are coming for your child does not help prepare him or her. As parents, its unlikely that we will ever feel ready for the teen years. However, you can ease your worries by working on educating your child and becoming comfortable talking together about all of these topics. You can do this and we will help you every step of the way.
How does Time for the Talk work?
When you purchase Time for the Talk, you will be emailed the first class. This will include a video for you and your child to watch and some pdf Fun Sheets to complete together.
You will then receive an email each week (for a total of 5 weeks) that will include the video and Fun Sheets for that week’s class.
Check out our video on How to use Time for the Talk for more information:
How much time does each class take?
Each week the video and Fun Sheets take anywhere from 30-60 minutes to complete. The beginning each video will give you an approximate time for that week’s class. The time will vary from family to family; depending on how much time you spend on the Fun Sheets.
Do I need to be online at a certain time each week?
No. Time for the Talk is designed for you to complete when it fits into your schedule. You have complete flexibility with when you complete the class with your child. One week you may choose to do class on Saturday morning and the next on a Wedesday night. It is made to fit your schedule. We do encourage you to schedule the time each week though since we know how busy families get.
Do you teach a certain set of values?
No. Time for the Talk is created for you to insert your value system into our program. We provide the facts and you are given the opportunity to add your values throughout the classes.
Is this an Abstinence Only program?
No. We do discuss abstinence and how it is the only 100% effective way to prevent pregnancy. However, we also mention birth control as a means for preventing pregnancy. All of this information is presented in an age-appropriate manner, geared toward preteens.
What if I have questions during the program? Are you available for help?
We are always available to answer your questions via email. You can also post a question or comment on our private Facebook page. (You receive access after purchasing the program.)
What if my child doesn’t want to take these classes with me?
This is a very normal response. Remember, we created this program because kids aren’t usually excited to talk with their parents about sex and their changing bodies. From our experience, after the first class, students typically become much more comfortable and look forward to spending this one-on-one time with you.
How much does Time for the Talk cost?
Our 5-week Video class costs $126.00.
We honestly believe that this is one of the best investments you can make in your child’s future. By opening the lines of communication, you will teach your child that they can come to you, even when the topic is uncomfortable. As they enter their teen years, they will know that you are there for them. This is priceless.
